She was fortunate enough to study under acclaimed Master teacher, Carol Tarr. Prior to college, Alexa studied with renowned Suzuki pedagogue, Rodney Farrar, who inspired her to become a Suzuki Cello teacher, and under his tutelage won various prestigious competitions in Northern Colorado. In elementary school, Alexa studied cello with Lisa Eakins, of the Fort Collins Symphony, who inspired her at a young age to become a professional cellist.

Alexa is dedicated to providing students with lessons that are nurturing, fun, and challenging. She brings humor to every lesson and tailors lessons to the goals of each student. She has special interests in teaching injury prevention through proper technique and enjoys coaching students to prepare for performances and competitions in a way that helps to mitigate anxiety. Many of these techniques she learned through studying the Alexander technique, Mindfulness Meditation, and techniques that tone and calm the nervous system that she learned through Yoga Teacher Training. As a certified Yoga teacher, her students benefit from the mental and physical techniques that she incorporates into lessons. Ms. Massey has students who have gone on to win various honors and competitions, and even receive scholarships to study music at prestigious music schools.

“For me, teaching is a calling. It is such a special relationship to get to be part of someone’s musical and artistic growth, and family life over the years. It is a gift to pass on the joys and rewards of cello to future generations of aspiring musicians. I am so grateful for what I do, and for the relationships it cultivates.” -Alexa Massey
