Studio Policies

Lesson expectations

Students are expected to arrive and leave on time to their lesson, and bring all instruments, music, and any other supplies related to the lesson.

Please do not knock on my door until your lesson time, as this can disrupt the focus of the student before you.

Daily practice is expected. A student who has been negligent in their practice requirements may be put on a probationary period. If practice habits have not improved within a 3 month period this may be grounds for removal from the studio.

There are 3 semesters in a calendar year (Spring, Summer, and Fall). The number of lessons at each semester will be announced in advance.

Payment and Makeup Lessons

Semester tuition is to be paid in full, by the first lesson of the semester. Other payment arrangements are made on a case by case basis according to the needs of the student.

Each student is eligible for one makeup lesson per semester.

If I cancel a lesson, the student will have the option of a makeup lesson or a refund.

Tuition refunds are considered under certain circumstances; but are not guaranteed.

Lessons are $60/hour, $45/45 minute lesson, and $30/half hour lesson.

Sickness and Cancellation

Do not come to your lesson if you are sick with a contagious disease. Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, both the flu and cold are contagious for a minimum of 7 days from the onset of symptoms. Do not come to your lesson if you have an active cough from a contagious disease.

Parent involvement

Students 12 and under

For younger students, it is recommended that the parent attends the lessons as frequently as possible. However, no previous musical experience is required of any parent; only a willingness to participate in and enjoy the musical process.

Parents who actively sit and listen, take notes, ask questions, and show interest in the material are the most effective at-home teachers and helpers. This model sets your child up for their best success.

If a parent is unable to attend the lesson, I recommend we touch base on the phone on a monthly basis, or during the last few minutes of the lesson whenever possible.

Students ages 13-17

Parents are still welcome and encouraged to attend lessons and take notes. However, at this point I am encouraging that the student takes their own notes. Depending on the needs/temperament of the student, sometimes the parent not attending the lessons can be the most productive. However, if this is the case, I would like to touch base over the phone at least once a month, and I still would highly recommend the parent attends lessons periodically. This ensures everyone is on the same page, and that the student feels nurtured and supported.

Lessons for students 18 +

I accept adult students of all ages and abilities. If you can carve out the time in your schedule, adults can make astounding progress in just one year of committed effort. To give you an example, because adults already have such refined fine-motor and advanced critical thinking skills, what a dedicated 6 year old can accomplish in 4-6 years, I’ve seen a steadfast adult accomplish in just one year. I have heard so many adults say, “I’ve always wanted to learn an instrument, but what’s the use? I’m too old.” This is absolutely NOT TRUE! Talents begin at any age, and if you have the passion and motivation, you may astound yourself at what you can accomplish. I’ve taught students as old as age 84. Not only was it rewarding for her– but it inspired several of her adult children and friends to take up hobbies such as music, art, or learning a foreign language! Additionally, I have taught many families where I teach the parent and the children. This is a most rewarding family dynamic!
